Arizona Rural STEM Summit: Empowering Communities

Thank you for your interest in the 2025 Rural STEM Learning Summit. Early Bird Registration for the Summit and Hotel room block will be available on January 13, 2025. Links to both will be on this page.

Phoenix has two airports. We suggest you use Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (Phx). 


We suggest renting a car, or carpool. The venue is in the northern part of Glendale just over 25 miles from Phoenix Skyharbor Airport. Uber and Lyft are also available. 


*  Conference attendees will have a light breakfast on Thursday, and Friday. Lunch on  Thursday and Friday.

* Dinner is on your own. 

* The Summit will be hosting a Reception on Thursday evening.  


Drury Hotel's Paradise Valley venue is the Conference Hotel. Conference rates can be access two days prior and following the Summit. You will have to confirm dates when you make your reservation.


1. Water Bottle (we will have stickers to decorate it)

2. Electrolyte packs - Kal suggests Drip Drop rehydration relief packs (Amazon). 

3. Weirdly enough, a few layers. Sometimes the rooms can be cold, even it it is a scorcher outside.

4. Walking/Hiking stick and hat if you plan to venture out into the AZ wilds.


1. Downtown Phoenix is walkable and has AZ Science Center, S'edav Va'aki cultural museum, Shopping, Sports Arenas, and interesting food venues

2. Tempe - Arizona State University, Papago Park (Zoo, Botanic Gardens, hiking), Tempe Town Lake.

3. Downtown Scottsdale - is an experience. Very 1960's upscale style architecture with great shops and restaurants. Frank Lloyd Wright Taliesin West, World Wildlife Zoo, AZ Odyssey.

4. Phoenix has the largest city park system in the U.S. with 120,000 acres set aside. All have hiking trails. 

5. Rare Gem in North Phoenix - Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve. Currently being taken care of by ASU, this is an amazing site in the northern foothills.

6. North - Verde Valley with Sedona (just over an hour north), Cottonwood (Wine tasting), and Montezumas Well and Castle. Then Flagstaff (about 2 hour drive) and the Grand Canyon (about 3.5 hour drive).

7. South - Tucson, Sonoita & Elgin (wine growing region), Nogales (AZ & MX).

8. If you like Observatories - there are three spectacular sites in So AZ - Kitt Peak, Mt. Lemon, and Mt. Graham ; in Northern AZ Flagstaff has Lowell Observatory and its new engagement center. Check with each site's website for visitor details.
